The MagnificatIn 2011, I composed this setting of Mary's Song from the Gospel according to Luke. Heather Whitney performed the vocal.

In This MysteryRecorded for my "Write Your Story" CD in 2000 but written in the mid-90s. Lyrically, it remains resonant with my silent (often wordless) prayers.
SurrenderingLots of memories in this one! A ministry trip to the Big Island -- Makapala! In fact, the song was written in the middle of preparing for that trip at a time when things were not coming together very well.
HealerHere's another track from Write Your Story. Again, I am stirred by the depth of presence the musicians and engineers brought to this recording.
Write Your StoryThis is the title track from my 2000 release. The record still moves me, in large part because everyone who participated brought their love to it.

Regressus ad UterumSolo acoustic guitar (me and my beloved 1971 Guild F-50) recorded by Jay Hallstrom at Radio Poet.
Circular ReasoningFeaturing Nancy Rumbel on oboe with Ron Cole playing a trumpet ostinato. Davin McLaird played the pattering djembe part. In addition to playing guitars and synth weirdnesses I also added a Native American log drum for the booms. Tom Hall tracked and mixed.

WaitingSolo acoustic in odd time signatures...
Via NegativaI made this track with my long-time friend and collaborator, Kelly Carpenter, at his home studio when he was living in Temecula, CA. Kelly created the percussion loops and played the wonderfully atmospheric keyboard parts. I did the guitars, the pennywhistle (with assistance from Kel's Pro Tools wizardry), the mountain dulcimer (built by Kelly's dad), and drummed the back of a guitar. In addition to mixing this behemoth, Tom Hall played bass guitar.
Begging the QuestionFrom the album Lingua Franca... Nancy Rumbel played bird whistles and oboe. I'm pretty sure I played everything else.
Iberian MuseAnother solo acoustic guitar piece from Lingua Franca...
Without CeasingFrom the album Lingua Franca... Again, Tom Hall was at the desk; in fact, it was he that convinced me to incorporate the acoustic guitar melody scratch track in the final mix. The voice you'll hear is the remarkable Roger Treece; his ad lib continues to stop me in my tracks! Nancy Rumbel played oboe, Robert Puff played clarinet, Davin McLaird played dejembe, and Marc Miller played fretless bass.
So to SpeakFrom the album Lingua Franca... Davin McLaird played djembe (with brushes), Ron Cole played trumpet and flugelhorn, Nancy Rumbel played oboe, and Marc Miller played fretless bass. Tracked and mixed by Tom Hall.
As if to SayFrom the album Lingua Franca... This is a solo guitar piece, compositionally influenced by Erik Satie. Tom Hall was behind the board.
In Other WordsFrom the album Lingua Franca... This track features Davin McLaird on djembe, Marc Miller on fretless bass, and Nancy Rumbel on ocarina. Mixed by Tom Hall. I played the guitars.
MontparnasseI wrote this in July of 2010 while Hilary & I were staying with Craig & Lora in their Paris flat (thus the title). This recording is from a worship service at University Presbyterian Church in the summer of 2011. Bryn Cannon played viola, Tomoko Morita played alto recorder, and I played my Bruno parlor guitar.

Reverie in B MinorI was recording guitar tracks for my good friend, Kelly Carpenter, when we got distracted by a magical sonic sauce he had created around my Yairi YB-1 baritone guitar. He suggested that I follow the creativity and improvise something. This is what happened.
